Two UK schools in new Comenius EURoboCup project
Posted on Tuesday, October 09 @ 16:42:00 BST
Topic: Information about RobocupJunior UK
Two UK schools are amongst four European schools to be awarded EU Comenius funding to collaborate on a EURoboCup project to prepare Robot Dance, Rescue and Soccer teams to participate in RoboCup 2009. The successful schools are:

Childwall School, Liverpool
Calday Grange Grammar School, West Kirby, Wirral
Kontiolahden Kirkonkylan koulu, Kontiolahti, Finland
Bánki Donát Muszaki Közepiskola, Nyireyháza, Hungary

Seven other schools in Germany, Norway, Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands and the UK were included in the project proposal, but haven't been funded by their respective national agencies. They can reapply in January to join the project next September, when more Comenius funding will be available.

The project proposal was led by Mike McAteer at Childwall School, assisted by Stephen Norbury at Calday Grange Grammar School, Ashley Green at The Open University, and Julie Gittoes and Pat Hughes at BT.

All the project participants will gather in Liverpool next spring, as part of that city's European Capital of Culture celebrations, to work on their preparations for the world RoboCup event to be held in Graz, Austria in summer 2009. They will meet again in Finland next autumn to continue those preparations.

BT will be providing technical support for experimental video link-ups between the partner schools, to facilitate communication between the participating students and their teachers.
