The UK team won three awards at the RoboCupJunior World Finals in Lisbon last week. "Prometheus" (Shenley Brook End School, Milton Keynes) won the award for Best Poster Presentation (all Secondary categories). "Ridgmont Pearl" (Ridgmont Lower School, Bedford) won the Primary Dance award for Originality. "Gary The Rocking Robot" (Walton High School, Milton Keynes) won the Secondary Dance award for Entertainment Value. "Ridgmont Pearl" and "Gary The Rocking Robot" both qualified for the finals in their respective categories. "Speedy Gonzalez" (Green Lane CLC, Dagenham) qualified for the Primary Rescue finals.
The UK team were up against teams from 17 other countries. They faced particularly stiff competition from strong Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese teams who scooped up the majority of the prizes. The UK team features in a one-page article "Build me a robot that can bend it like Becks" in today's issue of The Times (T2 page 16).
